Vanessa Hadox

Director of Development and Communications, Vanessa Hadox, joined Groundswell’s team in 2013. In her current role, she manages a diverse portfolio of local, regional, and national foundation and government funders; oversees Groundswell’s individual giving programs and special events including our Directors’ Circle and Annual Art Auction Benefit; and guides the organization’s online and print communications efforts. Prior to joining Groundswell's team, she managed fundraising events and membership at ArtsWestchester, the regional arts council for Westchester County.
 
As an active member of arts administration and fundraising communities in New York City, Vanessa has served as a proposal evaluator for the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs’ Cultural Development Fund, the JM Kaplan Innovation Prize, and the Brooklyn Arts Council’s Creative Coalitions Commission. She has spoken about the role of the arts in urban planning and design at the Van Alen Institute; shared youth development and urban arts programming best practices with the U.S. State Department’s International Visitors Program; and led Jane’s Walks for the Municipal Art Society highlighting public art in Brooklyn.
 
Vanessa is founding Board Member member of NYU’s Museum Studies Alumni Organization, providing topical professional development and social activities for program alumni employed in a variety of capacities in the arts and cultural sector. She is also a 2016-2017 New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) Emerging Leader, participating in the year-long professional leadership development workshop series.
 
Vanessa holds a BA in History from the University of California, Irvine and an MA in Museum Studies from New York University. Her scholarship is focused on the sociology of placemaking and the role of art in public spaces.
